Joining the Dark Side with the Bobbi Brown Black Velvet Collection - Makeup and Beauty Blog
Darth Vader: Bobbi, you lot exercise non even so realize your importance. You accept only begun to notice your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, nosotros can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.
Bobbi Brown: Speak to me.
Darth Vader: If you only knew the ability of the Nighttime Side…
Actually, Bobbi does know the power of the Dark Side. She joined information technology this fall, merely not in an evil empire kind of way (I would totally buy a Vader lipstick!
).
Bobbi's new 14-slice Black Velvet drove (pieces $20-24 each) features, equally one might expect, a selection of sooty black-based makeup for eyes and lips, and since nosotros're talking most the Queen of Clothing Makeup here, at that place's nothing too cray-cray in the mix. The colors have all been dialed down enough to brand them suitable for sidewalks AND catwalks.
Yes, each of the new permanent collection products and express edition shades is influenced past black, but Bobbi kept everything street- and workplace-friendly, adding plums, cherries and maple tones, equally well as a few semi-transparent shades.
My lips like these dark lipsticks; they totally take me dorsum to the gothy mid-'90s, when night shades and black lips were all the rage. Those were my college years, and I recollect getting a lot of utilize out of a color that was similar to Bobbi's Lip Color in Black Maple (can't think the name, but information technology was also a semi-matte blackish plum), which I'd wear with plaid shirts, ripped jeans, big hoop earrings and Converse high tops. 🙂
Here are some swatches and pics from the new drove… Allow me know what yous think!

I like that Bobbi tried to brand sooty black lips and eyes more accessible with this release, merely I wonder what die-hard Bobbi Brown fans will retrieve nigh it.
When I picture the classic Bobbi look, I call up fresh, pretty and easygoing — makeup for women who lean toward the bourgeois cease of the makeup spectrum.
My hat goes off to her for trying something new, and I always dear nods to the '90s, but from what I've seen of Blackness Velvet and then far, I wouldn't call information technology one of my favorite BB releases to date. Apart from the Sparkle Heart Shadow in Black Velvet (glitter!), the eye colors aren't exciting me. It all feels very serious to me, more serious than MAC'due south like Style Black collection did last year.
Let me know what you call back… Inquiring minds want to know!
